COMMITTEE REPORTS:
EDUCATION COMMITTEE: 
The education committee will now meet the SECOND Wednesday of each month at 8am the Chamber in Jefferson.    This committee will no longer meet immediately following breakfast!!

SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT GROUP (SBDG) will meet for the first time at the chamber on April 8th at noon (lunch provided).  Please call Linda or Shane if you are interested in serving on this new, exciting committee. 

WOMEN IN BUSINESS needs lunch sponsors and programming for 2008.  Please let Cingy George know if you are interested in providing a program or lunch! 770/843-7167.

WOMEN IN BUSINESS meets the third Wednesday of each month at First Georgia Banking Co in Jefferson.   This is large group that is growing rapidly and we would LOVE to have you join us!   WIB is open to any chamber members!   Lunch is provided and no RSVP is necessary.   Thank you to our 2008 co-chairs: Toni English and Annette Raymond 

TOURISM COUNCIL:  Our newly formed Tourism Council met for the first time this month and we had a great turnout representing areas from all over Jackson County.  This group will be developing a plan to market Jackson County and all the areas and interests inside our county.    If you are interested in being on this committee, please call Linda or Shane at the chamber.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY INVITES JACKSON COUNTY BUSINESSES TO AN INFORMATIONAL LUNCHEON on April 1st from 12:00-1:30 at Community Bank - Jefferson.  "Because we Care" will provide a variety of information about workplace solutions that address employee wellness, volunteerism, com,munity leadership, and philanthrophy while advancing the ACS's mission of eliminating cancer.  Lunch will be provided.  Please RSVP ro Ashley Morrow at 706/549-4893 or amorrow@cancer.org

Jackson County Comprehensive High School Choral Program will begin an eight day trip in Europe April 6th.  If you would like to help fund the trip for the attending students contact Todd Chandler 706-367-5003 or at tchandler(at)jackson.k12.ga.us.  Donations are tax deductible.

JEFFERSON PARKS & REC. is having a golf tournament on April 25 at Sandy Creek Golf Course.  The Jefferson Scholarship fund makes it possible for underprivileged children to partake in recreation sports.  April 23rd. Friends of Kid's Resource Center -  first Annual Amanda's Blessing Banquet & Silent auction - May 24th at 6pm - Jefferson Civic Center.    The Resource Center is also having a Firm Foundation Engraved Brick Campaign for Amanda House - goal is 500 bricks by May 15th - sponsor a brick with 3 lines of text engraved for your business or honor a loved one - each brick sponsorship $100.  Contact Chad at 706-757-2161 or 706-983-0055 for more details.

The Commerce Downtown Development Authority - and Georgia Council for the Arts' Grassroots Arts Program grant will be hosting an entertainment series in Spencer Park every other Friday beginning April 25th.  Free movie and music.  April 25th - movie - "BEE MOVIE",   May 9th - concert - "Solstice Sisters and Friends", May 23rd - concert - TBA, June 6th - movie - "Surf's Up".  Most events will start around 6pm - movies begin at sundown and all events are free.

Jackson Co. Community Outreach - will announce the winners of its Sixth Annual County - wide Essay Contest with a reception at the First United Methodist Church, Commerce on Saturday April 19th.  Any business or group interested in sponsoring a reception for approx. 60 people, contact Doris at 706/367-8234.

MARCH OF DIMES -  Barrow-Jackson March for Babies (formerly WalkAmerica) will be Friday, April 18th with registration at 6 and the walk at 7pm.   Event will be held at Russell Middle School in Winder.
