Chamber Committees

Board of Directors
Normally meeting the third Friday of the month, the board is an elected group that works as the governing body of the chamber.  The board reviews the program of work and the financial state of the chamber.  It also is in place working to ensure the mission and purpose are being fulfilled.  Board members are members of the Chamber and are selected through a nomination process.

Education Committee
Open to the community, the Education Committee serves multiple facilitation roles in the Jackson County community for education/business and human services sectors, for an improving quality of life, for all citizens by providing the tools to be ready for school, work, or life.  This committee hosts the annual PIE Workshop and STAR and Teacher of the Year Reception; serves as the CTAE Advisory Board and provides an active Speakers List as a resource for Teachers in the classroom.  This committee typically meets the second Wednesday of every month at 8:00 a.m. at the chamber in Jefferson.  The education committee plans and hosts the following annual events:

  • Partners in Education: To administer and assist in maintaining the relationships between the business community and the schools within the county and cities to enhance and expand the educational opportunities for all students.
  • STAR Student and Teacher of the Year Reception: To recognize and honor the STAR students and teachers in the county and the Teachers of the Year in each school.

Legislative Reception Committee
This committee prepares legislative policies and reports for the Board of Directors; keeps abreast of local, state, and federal legislation and encourages that which is
pro-business and conducive to economic and community development by being
pro-active and taking positions.

Public Relations Committee
The mission of this committee is to promote as well as raise community awareness of the Chamber's programs, successes and opportunities.  This committee assists all other committees with their needs in promoting events and news of their initiatives.

Small Business Committee
This committee meets to discuss potential programming and other opportunities that may be available or created to enhance and provide important and relevant information to the small business community.

Tourism Development Council
The TDC hosts monthly meetings to discuss and plan tourism related activites for Jackson County and to develop a strategic plan for tourism.  These members also represent Jackson County at tourism conferences and clinics.  They also maintain a database of tourism inventory and maintain Jackson County's Camera Ready certification.  This committee typically meets the fourth Tuesday of every month.

Women in Business
Meeting the third Wednesday of the month at the Community & Southern Bank, the committee hosts monthly meetings for the purpose of increasing the professional and personal development of women, and encouraging participation and recognition of women in the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce.  They also host the annual Woman of the Year Luncheon normally held in November of each year.
